It's harder to tune and harder to get rosin to work on this violin than on the full sized one from Glarry (V402), and there are more options at full size. But this is the only one currently offered in this size, I think. It's certainly a decent value for only $60 to get a case and a violin and a bow, so that's good. Assembly of the bridge and initial tuning is fairly easy, but the tuning does also slip easily and needs to be retuned a bunch at first. I am hopeful that will improve with time, but we shall see. The rosin is difficult to apply, even after scoring the block of rosin, but hopefully it will build up over time on the bow and strings and enable a playable sound.
For the price of $60, you probably can't find a cheaper one that comes with a bow and case. Not having any other 1/4 size violins to compare it to, it's hard to make a comparison. But the little one enjoys just having a violin. So I'm not disappointed with the purchase. It's a very small investment for an introduction to music making.
